Thread Sealants: get rid of pastes, tapes and viscous adhesives

Available in liquid and stick form, LOCTITE thread sealants prevent gas and water leakage in metal pipes and connections. Designed for low and high pressure applications, these products fill the gap between threaded parts and provide fast and low pressure sealing. When fully cured, it seals at the shear strength level of most piping systems.

Why LOCTITE Threaded Seals are superior to Traditional sealant types

Solvent-based sealants may be reduced as solvents evaporate during curing. Fittings need to be re-tightened to minimize gaps. These adhesives provide part sealing through a combination of friction and deformation.

PTFE tape lubricates the part out of the original bonding direction and allows the fasteners to loosen under dynamic loads, resulting in loss of clamping force and leakage. Dynamic loads accelerate slippage, causing leakage over time. The lubricating effect of PTFE often results in over-tightening of fasteners, increasing stress on parts or causing them to break. The application requires good professional skill for stress relief of fittings or molds.

Hemp and Glue-type adhesives are applied slowly, spreading the parts together, preventing the torque force required to obtain the correct pre-tension. These features may require rework for 100% bonding of the part.
